reCalm is a breathing app that puts one breath between you and the apps that pull at you. This page says plainly what the app collects, what it never collects, and who else can see it.
The short version
- The camera never records. No photo or video file is created, kept, or uploaded.
- Which apps you shield, and when you open them, stays on your device. Apple does not let us read it.
- We keep a small amount of usage data to see whether the app works, and your purchase status so your subscription follows you.
- We do not sell your data. We do not run advertising.
What stays on your phone
Camera and breathing
If you turn on breath detection, the front camera runs during a breathing session only. Frames are read by a model that runs on the device itself and are dropped straight after. No frame is written to storage and no frame is sent anywhere. There is no video file, so there is nothing about your face to keep safe. You can refuse camera access and the app still works: the session falls back to the timed pacer.
Screen Time and shielded apps
Shielding uses Apple's Screen Time framework. Your choice of apps is held by iOS in a form the app cannot read, and it never leaves your device. We do not know which apps you picked, and we do not receive a record of when you opened them.
Your sessions and settings
Your check-ins, breathing sessions, days practised and settings live in the app's own storage on the device. If you create an account, they also sync to our backend so you can move to a new phone.
Guidance in the app
The app adapts to you: which hours suit you, how long a pause should be, which words a reminder uses. All of that is worked out on the device from your own activity. There is no chatbot, and nothing you do is sent to an outside model.
Live Activities and widgets
When a sit starts, the app can show a card on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island with the scene name and the time your apps open again. The card is drawn on the device and counts down by itself. It uses no push token and sends nothing to us. Home Screen widgets read the same on-device storage.

Analytics events carry an anonymous identifier, not your name. Apple never gives us your payment details: a purchase reaches us as a receipt saying what you bought, nothing more.
What we never collect
- Camera photos, video, or audio.
- Contacts, messages, location, or health records.
- The list of apps you shield, or your usage of them.
- Anything sold or handed to advertisers or data brokers.
Permissions the app asks for
Every one is optional, each is asked for at the moment it is used, and refusing any of them leaves the rest of the app working.
- Camera, for Breath Check. Nothing is recorded or sent. Refuse it and the session uses the timed pacer.
- Screen Time, to shield the apps you choose. Your choice stays on the device in a form we cannot read.
- Notifications, for reminders. They are composed on the device from your own activity. You can turn them off in the app, or in iOS Settings, at any time.
The app asks for no other permission. It does not use tracking, and it does not ask for the App Tracking Transparency prompt, because it does not track you across other companies' apps or sites.
Children
reCalm is not built for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If a child has sent us data, write to us and we will delete it.
How long we keep things
Account and session data is kept while your account exists. Analytics events are kept for up to 24 months, then dropped. Purchase records are kept as long as Apple and our accountants require.
Your choices
- Refuse the camera, notifications, or Screen Time. Each one is optional and the app still runs.
- Delete the app. Anything held only on the device goes with it.
- Delete your account inside the app: You tab, Settings, Delete account. Your synced data and your signature image are erased from our servers.
- Ask us to export or delete your account data. Write to saugatfiguresitout@gmail.com and we will act within 30 days.
If you are in the EU or the UK, you also have the right to object to processing, to correct your data, and to complain to your data protection authority.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will change the date at the top and say so in the app.
